Update

Upon incessant insistence from a certain coworker of mine, and after giving away far too many free lunches, I think it's finally time.  The Illinois marathon is tomorrow, and I'm excited.  There are free socks today at Champaign Surplus, making me more excited.  And today is Friday, Friday, yesterday was Thursday, Thursday.  There is no way I can focus on photolithography right now -- I'm thinking way too much about what seat I prefer when driving on the way to school -- so I'm gonna finally update this puppy.

What has been going on these days?  It seems most of my pictures include a certain someone, so those of you who already see us together all the time, my apologies.  Mom, I'm sure you don't mind.

Recently, Ms. Awesome got me a customized coffee mug for lab.  There's a heart on it with a photo of us two.  Most people have kept their comments to themselves, but I'll publicly declare that I'm stoked, and I'm starting to get to that point where I'm not too concerned about my image anyways.

What's to be concerned about?

For $10, these glasses aren't that bad.  Got 'em at the mall at one of those booths where they usually sell meaningless things, like phone covers, slap bracelets, and shirts with wolves on them.

The mug comes with the added benefit of having a matching twin.

Another one of our group has graduated and will be moving out of the limbo of grad school on to some real job.  Someday Josh, someday.  I really can't wait.  Here's the new Dr. Pedro with the Bossman.  Probably the most stylish guys in the group right there.  I'll also mention that Pedro has established the new record for number of non-CHBE girls to attend one's defense.

Pedro's cake, after I cut it prematurely.  Five years at this lab, and I still forget that we take a picture of the cake before eating it.  Food is one of the things that I really enjoy taking pictures of and talking about the most, but it's so tricky because I always end up eating before remembering to take a picture.  I'm improving, but at a glacier-like pace.  Recent success story at Sam and Christine's Bday party though.

Here's me and the lady at a Japanese place in town, owned by Koreans I believe.  There's a couple hidden Korean gems in the menu, including this guy:

Hwe dup bab.  Raw fish and veggies served over rice with a spicy bean paste.  Other places serve it in town, but I like it here the best.

Afterward we got our dance on at Soma.  This is us in the bar area, because in order to make the place look more bumpin, the bouncer wouldn't let us go back to the dance floor before 11PM.

Finally, they let me loose.  I was about to put in a video clip of us dancing, but there'd be hardly more movement than depicted in the photo above, so why bother.  We're engineers.

On to other business.  In preparation for the big race this Saturday, which is after Friday, which is after Thursday, Ritika and I went up to Chicago to run the Shamrock Shuffle with Dr. Brushett and his lovely fiancĂ©e.  You'll note that I got that skinny arm runner's physique going on.  Fantastic...

While in Chicago, we pretty much always take the extra effort to go to Garrett's for popcorn.  Incredible stuff.  Fellas, this is almost a guaranteed "Get out of jail FREE" card.

Your gf might even fold your laundry.  Crazy.  To all the makers of fine caramel and buttery popcorn in the world, I salute you.  Also thanks Ritz.  It's thanks to you that I'm wearing a clean set of socks today.

Lookin' forward to the weekend!
